LHRC translates its missions and objectives through the implementation of the following activities: 

Research on legal, human rights and social issues with findings playing a key role towards advocacy campaigns

Monitor, make a follow-up and report on human rights violation.
  • Provides training on human rights and legal issues  to create awareness and improve knowledge  of    Civil societies, local government leaders, law enforcers, as well as grassroots communities

  • Participatory trainings of paralegals (community members who volunteer to become paralegals) to enable them  deal with non-complex legal problems within their community;

  • Provision of legal assistance to underprivileged people and strategic litigation in issues  of public interest;

  • Publications of educational materials on human rights and legal issues in general

  • Conducts weekly radio and T.V. programmes which   focus on practical legal and human rights issues pertaining to the daily lives of Tanzanians and the country as a whole.

  • To denounce any human rights violation acts in the country whenever the need calls

  • To voice against gender and domestic violence, Female Genital Mutilations, and all deeds which violates the rights of women and children

  • Advocacy campaigns for vulnerable groups in the society

  • To remind the government to  ratify international conventions which deny rights of some of the groups

  • To remind the government to fulfill its obligation by making a timely submissions of reports on human rights to the United Nations Human Rights Committee and the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights

  • To press the government to change some of the laws that deny rights of people as stipulated in the Bills of Rights

  • To make recommendations on various Bills before they are enacted by the parliament.


The target groups  include the general public (men, women and children), indigenous, community leaders, influential people, politicians, policy makers, legislators, law enforcers, community-based organizations, NGO’s and various international organizations.
