IntroductionThe Parliament Watch is one of the novel ideas established by the LHRC with its goal being to observe how effective the legislature of Tanzania is. It further monitors accountability by the House as stipulated in the Constitution and as expected by voters. The Panel does a number of things on behalf of the public one being to evaluate how efficiency the House is, and on how accountable the executives are, with its endeavor being to strengthen good governance and ensure there is responsible leadership.
Composition of the PanelThe Parliament Watch Panel comprise of 1. Bishop Methodius Kilaini 2. Mr. Deus Kibamba 3. Mr. Yefred Myenzi 4. Mr. Anthony Ngaiza 5. Ms. Rose Mushi
ResolutionsThe Panel is at liberty to adopt its own modus operandi, rules and principles in accordance with its mandate, and goals of its establishment. The team works with the assistance from a secretariat which collects all the necessary information to enable it conduct its duties diligently.
ActivitiesThe Parliamentary Watch Panel is expected to perform the following activities, namely: • Receive and discuss research findings and inform the public on the implications; • Examine whether and to what extent the legislative body has been able to play its role on checking and balancing the other organs of the state to ensure promotion of human rights, accountability of the Executive, and rule of law; • Advise the nation on the proper role of parliamentarians and politicians; • Recommend reformative measures to make the senate more effective; • Supervise researches in various decision made by the assembly; and • Consider what changes should be made for the congress to be more responsible and accountable to the people. Press statements and press conferencesThe Panel meets quarterly to make press statements or hold press conferences. In addition, to holding ad hoc meetings whenever needed.
