Arusha once called as the ‘Geneva of Africa’ by former US president Bill Clinton, is one of the major tourist hubs in the country. The region is endowed with abundant resources with its area surrounded by the indigenous people. Its wealthy in natural resources has over the years attracted a number of investors genuine and those out to gain profit and leave its people poor. It is due to the umerous attractions that more people are moving in as days go by with land becoming more demanding making others grab what is not theirs. Land disputes are now rifer than ever making indigenous tribes around the area live a life of uncertainty. Having noted that, LHRC decided to establish a regional office to enable it cater for the region and neighboring areas.
The Arusha regional office has a legal aid clinic which boosts some qualified lawyers and counselors. The clinic provides services on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 10.00 am to 4.00 pm. The Center has designated Wednesday as a follow up day where legal officers concentrate on other issues such as drafting documents and making a close follow up on calling issues. What the center does: 1. Overseer human rights violations in the region and neighboring area 2. provides training to stakeholders in regard to human rights 3. Provides training to paralegals 4. Legal assistance to needy members 5. Counseling and intervention when the need calls 6. Links with the head office to monitor calling issues in regard to human rights for intervention.
